Problems

Mr. Paranoia

I’ve worked for a few companies in my life, some I miss and others I try to block out because they were a nightmare. One company in particular I worked for, stood in a category all its own. The owner of the company had only one emotion that made up his entire personality: paranoia. He micro-managed his company and the people under him for fear that someone would steal something from him. Here are two examples and I’m not exaggerating:

1) Cameras monitored every employee and every inch of his property inside and out. He would arrive two hours early and go over the video from the previous closing time to that morning. Once, a boy of about 12-14 years old rode a bike onto the property after hours, turned around and left. Mr. Paranoia had us come in to see if we knew the kid or had ever seen him before—no one did.

He then called police to file a report; he became angry when police told him no crime had been committed so they would not be wasting their time filing any reports. For several weeks after, he and family members (just as paranoid) came in at four-hour shifts overnight, in case the kid showed up again.

2) The most ridiculous one: he even monitored employee bathroom breaks. Restrooms in the company were kept locked; if you needed to go, you went to Mr. Paranoia and asked. He would then come out of his office and escort you to the supply closet. There he would pull out a roll of toilet paper, (that’s right, no toilet paper was kept in the bathroom for fear someone would steal it). He would then roll out two feet of paper, tear it off and hand it to you.

Then the two of you would step over to the bathroom door where he would unlock the door and look at his watch; you had ten minutes to do your business, anything more, and you were docked 15 minutes. Afterward, he inspected the bathroom to make sure you did not leave a mess. Then, you went back outside to a water hose where you could wash your hands if needed. Yep, no soap or towels were kept in the bathroom; you supplied your own.

The current company I work for by far is the best. Like any company, their ways here can get to you occasionally. When I do begin to get aggravated, dreams like the following one pop up to remind me, things could be far worse. So Mr. Paranoia and his company are usually the dream incentive to remind me of what I have.

Tuesday, February 10, 2015; unconscious dreaming

I was working with some local company— what I did, I don’t recall. I had a Ford 3500 dual wheeled pickup I used for work, don’t recall if it belonged to me or the company. However, the employer I was working for sent me out for some diesel fuel. I took two five-gallon cans and placed them in back of the truck. Down the street was the company that belonged to Mr. Paranoia, I recalled he had a 500-gallon fuel tank. I parked the truck a block away from his yard and walked the rest carrying the five-gallon cans.

His yard was empty of personnel and strangely the gates were left open. I walked on in and sat the cans down next to the fuel tank. I pumped both cans full, hung up the nozzle and picked the cans up. Leaving his yard, I cut through a wooded area between his shop and where I parked the truck. Just as I entered the woods I noticed to my right Mr. Paranoia driving by and looking over at his property. He happened to notice a figure, me, moving through the woods with the fuel cans, and he slowed to get a better look.

I knew he had yet to recognize me, so I turned onto a path to the left that took me deeper into the woods and away from the road. I glanced to my right to see him holding up traffic trying to get a good look at me, but I turned my back on him and continued on. He finally sped up and as soon as he was out of sight, I made for my truck. Once there I placed the cans in the back and took off. Since it was so close to lunch time, I went home.

At my house, I suddenly remembered that Mr. Paranoia had cameras all around his property and would be checking them when he got back to his office. I began to panic and realized that I had stolen fuel for no apparent reason. I could not understand why I had done such a thing. I hopped back in the truck and rushed off to Mr. Paranoia’s office.

I pulled into the driveway at the front door and went in.  A receptionist greeted me but looked at me suspiciously.

Hello,” I said, “I wanted to let you know that I stopped by here earlier and mistook this place for a gas station.”  I lied. “I took ten gallons in fuel and wanted to come in here and pay for it.”

That’s a lie,” she came back, “I saw you come up and take the fuel than sneak off into the woods with it. It’s also all on video.”

Look,” I pleaded, “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I did it but I came back and want to pay for the fuel, I’ll even pay extra to make up for it.” I pulled a wade of cash out of my pocket and tried to hand it over.

I’m sorry,” she said unconcerned, “but I can’t accept that. When Mr. Paranoia gets in, he will go over the video and see that you intended to steal from him. It’s out of my hands and you will have to deal with him.”

I knew she was right, after all I knew the guy well, and he would be pressing charges. I walked out to my truck wondering if I should just wait or go ahead to the police department and turn myself in. I did not know what to do; more than anything my mind was boggled and confused as to why I had done this. I got in the truck and sat there contemplating my actions and the effects they would have on the rest of my life. During this time, I woke up.

A personal note; for those of you that have downloaded my app, I want to say thank you. Unfortunately, I will be discontinuing the app at the end of this month. My decision is based on usage and finances. After the time I have had the app running, there have not been enough downloads to justify the cost. This isn’t to say the app is costly; I just have to cut corners somewhere to keep my website and blog going. However, let me throw Como one; if you are in need of an app, Como has an easy format to work with. I’ve also contacted support for some answers and let me say, these people care about their product.

I’m hoping in the future I can bring it back, but it will only be if I come up with some financial support for expandurmind. Thanks again to those of you that have been using it and please continue to check out my site.

Modern Rocketry

Wednesday night at my house is pizza and comedy night. I bring home a large veggie, with extra tomato sauce from Papa Johns, and the wife and I chill out in front of the television. We watch the comedy line up; In the Middle, The Goldberg’s, Modern Family and Blackish.

So it isn’t surprising that sometimes when my consciousness is relaying a message that some of these characters would show up. Of the four shows, I would relate to Phil Dunphy on Modern Family. For those unaware of the character; (1)Phil Dunphy sees himself as the “cool dad.” He dotes on his wife and constantly tries to find ways to bond with his kids. He has a childlike attitude, very confident and always full of new ideas.

2014/12/10 Wednesday; Unconscious dreaming
It was night time, and I found myself outside with Phil Dunphy a.k.a actor Ty Burrell on Modern Family. He was building a small orange rocket about five feet in length and one foot in diameter. We were putting the three-stage rocket together in his driveway; once it had been completed he directed me to help set it in a frame.

The frame sat in the middle of the driveway, and to each side in the grass were binders and straps. As Phil pulled one of the straps over the front of the rocket, he asked me to do the same on the rear. I cranked down on the binder until the strap was good and tight. I noticed the ground was kind of soft and said something to Phil. He told me not to worry—he did this many times before.

Afterward, I followed him into the grass far left of the driveway. In his hand Phil held a small box with a single button in the middle. He pushed the button, and the rocket fired. The thrust was incredible to the point of the rocket began to bow in the middle. I saw the rear anchor on the far side begin to pull out of the ground. I pointed this out to Phil, who began to get a worried expression on his face.

The thrust became more powerful, and the rear anchor gave way. The front was still tied down, and it flipped over, releasing itself from the frame. The two of us could see right away the rocket was on a trajectory for us.

“IN COMING!” Phil screamed.

We dropped to the ground as the rocket flew over our heads missing us by inches. As the rocket passed we rolled to our backs and sat up. The rocket shot across a road and over a field. Grazing in the field was a large stag with its back toward us. The rocket, staying level with the ground, hit the stag directly in the anus. Without stopping or slowing, it launched the stag across the field and into the woods beyond until out of sight.

“My rocket, my rocket!” Phil yelled.

He leapt up and ran from his yard out into the field in hot pursuit. I followed behind until I was across the road then stopped before entering the field. I turned and walked back toward the house. Just as I got back into the yard, I heard a loud scream of panic. I turned looking in the area of woods Phil had gone. He was now running hard and fast back home, screaming all the while.

Just as he made it to the road, I noticed a lion, twice the size of a normal one, bursting from the woods coming toward us. I turned and began to run for the house in hopes of getting inside. Only yards from the door, Phil passed me slamming into my left shoulder. Although it did not slow him down, he caused me to be knocked to the ground. I scrambled to my feet hearing the breath of the ferocious beast upon me. I had just begun my run back when I was pounced on, awaking me.

If you are new or missed any of my posts, I mentioned before that I was planning on publishing an e-book based on my dreams. The dream here is about the problem I’m running into, mainly the layout of the e-book. The following breakdown of the dream is mostly copy & paste from; dreammoods.com, plus a little editing.

Having a dream that takes place at night represents some obstacles in achieving your goals. You are being faced with an issue that is not so clear cut.

An actor represents your pursuit for pleasure. Consider also who this actor is and what characteristics you associate with him.

The rocket indicates that your plans or ideas will soon be taking off in a big way. You are experiencing a higher level of awareness. All your hard work is paying off.

Orange denotes hope, friendliness, courtesy, generosity, liveliness, sociability, and an out-going nature.

To dream that you are tying something represents your network and connection to others.

Depending on the context of your dream, the stag could mean grace, agility, regeneration and growth.
Seeing only the tail of an animal in your dream signifies annoyances and complications in a situation where pleasure was expected.

A lion symbolizes great strength, courage, aggression and power. You will overcome your difficulties.

Friday, June 6, 2014; (an unconscious dream)
It was some time after midnight and I was in my car. I was on my way to some appointment and seemed to be running a bit behind. I knew of a short cut, a road rarely used from the main road I was on through a small neighborhood. I took a right off the road onto the shortcut. The shortcut was an abandoned road that had become narrow due to the overgrowth of a field on both sides. The road was rough and cracked, keeping me around 25 mph.

Something several yards away dashed out from the left of the tall grass and into the right side of the field. The movement had been too fast and sudden to see what it might have been but it was a light brown or tan and about the size of a dog. I turned on my high beams which lit up the field on both sides and the back of homes some distance away at the end of the road.

The field on both sides grew from about two feet high along the edge to nearly six feet about ten feet away from the road. I began to get sleepy and pushed the car up to 30 mph. Something bolted out from the left of the high grass just in front of my car. I hit the brakes coming to an immediate stop. Whatever the animal had been, it had completed its crossing quick and unharmed. All I had seen of it was a tan pelt the size of a fox, not that it had been one. I continued on, bringing my speed back up to 25 mph.

Far ahead, another animal rushed across from the left over to the right and disappeared into the grass. It had been too far away and fast to get a look at what it may have been but it was large like a deer. It also had the same tan color as the last two. The homes I had first seen, seemed no closer than before. I moved my speed back up to 30 mph.

After only seconds at that speed, my instincts caused my foot to hit the brake as another animal cut across close in front of me. This one had been the smallest but as the others, had the same tan color. I proceeded on, slowly regaining my 25 mph speed. Just within my sight up ahead something the size of a buck bounded over the road in two strides from the left. It landed in the right side of the field.

As I had done with all the encounters, I glanced over to the right where they had gone. I never saw any of them. Strangely no two had been the same size or shape but all had been the same light tan color and I had gotten no good look at any of them. The homes I was going toward were getting no closer. It soon became apparent that when I got up to 30 mph, the creatures would wait and race out in front of me. Below that speed, they would cross far ahead just within my headlights but not close enough to tell what they were.

As I drove I held the car to 25 and continued to glance over to the right side of the road. The tall grass was the same shade of tan as were the animals that had been crossing. I began to see forms moving within the grass and slowed. As I slowed the animals either moved deeper into the grass or sank down. The homes at the end had been in my sights for many minutes but still I was no closer— like a mirage they stayed at the same distance all the time. Sleep began to overwhelm me and I found it harder to stay on the narrow road. No longer able to drive safely, I came to a stop. My thought was to shut the car off and sleep until morning. I had hoped when the sun came up I would be able to get to the end of the road.

I worried that another car might come up behind me and run into the back of me. I eased the car over to the right. I drove slowly as the front of my car had to push the high grass down. Completely off the road, the right side, front and rear of my car were buried against the grass. If anyone did come along, they would not see me until they were right beside me.

I turned the car off which cut the lights as well. I dropped my seat back to sleep. Although there were no lights out I could just make out the tops of the grass surrounding me. Forms began to move through the grass coming up to the car. They moved around and against the car, I reached to turn on the lights but the forms rushed away. I turned on the lights, seeing nothing but the road to my left and the grass around me.

Then strange creatures moved deep within the grass, so camouflaged that it was hard to see them once they stood still. The grass seemed to become thick with the creatures and I began to get nervous. I started the car and eased back out on the road. Picking up speed again, the animals also continued crossing the road once more, still too faraway to make out. My eyes remained heavy and a few times I nodded off. On one of my nods, I jerked my head back up only to find myself in my bed awake.
